Car Thief Sentenced After Wild Police Chase

Nasir Moses, 20, was sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in a high-speed car chase.

MONTVILLE, NJ — Morris County Prosecutors Office officials have sentenced a Jersey City man after it was discovered that he was the driver of a stolen car used in a police chase two years ago. The 20-year-old offender, Nasir Moses, pleaded guilty to two charges in March, eluding and receiving stolen property, and was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison on April 25.

On July 9, 2023, a Lincoln Park officer encountered a suspected stolen BMW driving on Route 202 in Montville. After the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and eventually exceeded speeds of 90 mph, authorities said. A high-speed chase ensued, and ultimately ended after the vehicle spun out of control on Route 287 North.

Five occupants exited the vehicle and fled across the highway and into the woods. Police pursued and eventually arrested four of the five passengers, with Moses being the only suspect escaping, according to officials. Authorities said that after a thorough investigation, it was discovered that Moses was the one behind the wheel.
