BOONTON, NJ — A local angler reeled in a massive catch at Masar Park this past weekend, and according to local fishermen, it’s the “largest reported catfish caught at the park in recent memory.”

Carolina Decker, of Montville, proudly reeled in a 9.6-pound catfish from the Maser Park pond on Sunday morning.

According to Decker, she and her husband spotted the catfish at Masar Park earlier in the week, and had been “fishing there all weekend, being patient,” trying to snag the nearly ten-pound mudcat.

“Oh my, I couldn’t believe how big it was,” Decker told Patch. “My husband promised if we used big bait, we would catch a big catfish. I was so proud to send the photos to my family back home in Panama!”

Decker used a full, six-inch bluegill as bait to lure in the mighty catfish. As she reeled it in, a group of onlookers gathered around in support and awe of her feat.
