Homeless Solutions also recognized Nina Nemeth of Montville with the 2013 Mary E. Van Kirk Volunteer Spirit Award for her selfless devotion and dedicated volunteer service to HSI for the last 11 years. Nina, an accomplished artist, first became involved with HSI when a friend asked her and her husband to help them cook at the shelter once a month. Over the years, she has cooked countless meals, painted many murals, created numerous art projects with the children, and is currently serving in the volunteer role of volunteer coordinator at Furnishing Solutions, HSI’s resale furniture store in Morris Plains.
The special feature at this year’s Bash was a “can-struction” of HSI’s latest property development at 81 Martin Luther King Avenue. The “can-struction” was designed and donated by NK Architects of Morristown. After the event, all of the cans of food were donated to the Community Food Bank and the Interfaith Food Pantry.
