Grand Slam Clinches Montville Softball Win

Mustangs advance in Morris County Tournament.

Montville's Emily Mulligan hit a grand slam over the left field fence to help the Mustangs secure a 5-4 win over Morris Knolls in the seventh inning of a Morris County Tournament quarterfinal game over the weekend, according to a recap on the school website.

Montville faces West Morris in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Thursday at Paterson Field in Rockaway.

In Saturday's quarterfinal game in Rockaway, the Mustangs entered the seventh inning trailing 2-0 and then loaded the bases with a single from Tami Lake, Sam Booth reaching on an error, and Rachel Inglesino hitting a single. Megan Patierno was hit by a pitch, scoring Lake, according to the Star-Ledger, and then Mulligan hit the grand slam. Montville pitcher Jessica Shalongo stopped a Morris Knolls rally to seal the win.
