Mustang Football Prep for Saturday Game Against Morris Hills

Both girls and boys soccer fell to Mount Olive HS on Monday. They hope to redeem themselves at games on Wednesday and later this week

Last week, Montville Mustangs hit the ground running by getting several wins under their belt.

In football, “Quarterback Booker McLean ran for an early 60-yard-touchdown” last Thursday, according to the athletic department. They left Chatham with a 8-3 victory after the team “added two more points on a safety.”

They head to Morris Hills this Saturday at 1 p.m.

In the game against High Point, Carly DeNigris scored twice in the second half, Amanda Murolo had one goal and two assists, Rachel Geffner and Stephanie Maggio each got a goal and Alison Hingle recorded five saves, according to the MTHS Athletic Department.

But they couldn’t keep the streak going this week; the girls lost to Mount Olive HS 3-0 on Monday. Hopefully they can bounce back on Wednesday when they play at Pope John XXIII at 4 p.m.

For boys soccer, they tied twice last week, the first in their Monday season opener against Pequannock and the second on Wednesday against Whippany Park. Their season opener went into double overtime before ending 2-2 with a goal from Jake Spielberger and freshman Ethan Grossman. On Wednesday, Eric Coan had the only goal.

However, they shut out Morris Hills on Thursday with a 2-0 win. Grossman and Adam Elias both scored a goal. But, just like the girls, Mount Olive traveled to Montville and left with a 3-0 win over the Mustangs on Monday. They have two more home games this week: Wednesday they play Pope John XXIII at 4 p.m. and they play Point Regional HS at 4 p.m. on Friday.
