Pine Brook FD Assists at Fairfield Blaze

Residents escaped fire that destroyed their home on Monday afternoon, police said.

The was one of five that responded to assist in battling a blaze that destroyed a Barbara Drive home in Fairfield on Monday afternoon, police said.

Fairfield police were alerted to the fire around 4 p.m. Monday, according to a Fairfield police news release.

Initial reports indicated the fire at 11 Barbara Drive was in the attic and the elderly residents were still in the home, police said. First responding officers found the homeowners had vacated the house. They also observed heavy smoke and flames along an inside stairway, according to police.

The Fairfield Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze with assistance from departments from Pine Brook, Caldwell, North Caldwell and West Caldwell, police said. Atlantic Healthcare Ambulance EMS-7 and the West Essex First Aid Squad also responded to assist.

The Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to be accidental, according to police. No injuries were reported.
