Pine Brook Motel Police-Involved Shooting Under State Probe: AG
The New Year's Eve shooting at a Route 46 motel stemmed from an attempted murder investigation, the state Attorney General's office said.
PINE BROOK, NJ - A New Year’s Eve police-involved shooting at a Pine Brook motel left one civilian dead, resulting in an investigation from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
The shooting occurred at around 7:14 p.m. after members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team arrived at the motel to assist Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office detectives with executing an arrest warrant for a Tuesday attempted murder in Elmwood Park, the state office said.
The identity of the male victim was not immediately released.

Per an initial investigation, detectives determined the suspect was inside a particular room at the time, and members of the Morris County SERT made entry as the individual exchanged gunfire with two officers, the state office said.
Officers attempted life-saving measures on the victim to no avail; he was pronounced deceased minutes later. Authorities also found a firearm near the decedent, the state office said.

Two officers were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting, the state office said.
The state Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability opens an investigation anytime a fatal police-involved shooting is reported.
The investigation is ongoing. No further information is being released at this time, the Attorney General’s Office said.
