MOORESTOWN, NJ — If you’re like many of your Moorestown neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Moorestown area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. Moorestown Community House: The facility serves as a hub for community activity and as a place to nurture the growth of local nonprofits.
  2. Perkins Center for the Arts: The organization has been central to the local arts community. Perkins supports supports interdisciplinary and intercultural education through programming subsidized by scholarships and programs for other organizations.
  3. NAMI of Burlington County: The local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness works to improve the lives of people impacted by mental illness through support, advocacy and education.
  4. H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Evolve): H.O.P.E. offers grief support groups for those who have recently lost a spouse or partner.
  5. Family Promise of Burlington County: Family Promise provides shelters, meals and other assistance to homeless families in Burlington County.
