50 MPH Gusts Blast Through Moorestown, Some Of NJ's Highest During Storm
Moorestown endured some of the highest-recorded gusts in the state overnight, and the highest in Burlington County.
MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown sustained 50 mph gusts Wednesday night, marking one of New Jersey's highest-recorded speeds as powerful winds pushed through the region.
Fierce gusts accompanied showers across New Jersey overnight, causing thousands of power outages throughout the state.
The National Weather Service's (NWS) Mount Holly office collected reports of the region's highest-recorded wind speeds from the cold front. Gusts of 50 mph in Moorestown were the fastest recorded in Burlington County.

These were the peak gusts across the county, according to NWS:
- Moorestown: 50 mph, 10:05 p.m.
- McGuire Air Force Base: 47 mph, 10:09 p.m.
- Tabernacle: 43 mph, 10:30 p.m.
- Mount Holly: 40 mph, 12:03 a.m.
The state's highest-recorded gusts were in northwestern New Jersey (55 mph at High Point Monument, Sussex County) and on the Shore (53 mph in Cape May Harbor).

More than 10,000 people lost power across the state overnight. Fortunately for Moorestown, there aren't any outages in the township as of 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to PSE&G.
Calmer conditions are expected in the coming days before likely showers on Friday night, according to forecasters.
Here's the NWS's latest forecast for Moorestown:
- Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 55. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
- Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 34. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
- Friday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 61. South wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
- Friday night: Showers likely, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
- Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. West wind 5 to 10 mph.
