WESTHAMPTON, NJ —After nearly two years of waiting, Burlington County Animal Shelter's most long-term resident has finally found a family.

Dash, a 6-year-old American pit bull terrier, was adopted a couple of weeks ago, the shelter confirmed on Facebook. It was a much-anticipated moment for Dash, a favorite at the shelter who was surrendered in September 2020 because his former owners had to relocate.

The shelter tried to find Dash a home by sharing his story on social media. They even went as far as to post his cute mug on pizza boxes.

Dash was adopted by Mount Laurel resident Brittany Eifert and her fiancé, Nick Butler.

"He was very sweet and playful, and it felt like a good fit for us," Eifert said in a news release. "When we heard how long he’d been in the shelter, we knew we couldn’t pass him up."

Meanwhile, shelter staff said they "couldn't be happier" for Dash and sent him off to his new home with plenty of pomp and circumstance.

"Hard work pays off and now he gets to continue to grow in his new home," staff said on Facebook.

The Burlington County Animal Shelter is located at 35 Academy Dr. in Westampton and is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12-4 p.m. and Thursdays from 12-7 p.m. The shelter is closed on Wednesdays.
