Baker Students Celebrate Read Across America

Baker Elementary School students celebrated Read Across America Day on Friday, March 1. The day began with a Reading Train, one of Baker’s many traditions. The children then joined beloved Baker mascot, Buddy Bear, and principal Shelly Rowe in a hat parade around the school. The parade also included none other than the Cat in the Hat himself. Baker Bears wore hats of all types, from Thidwick the Moose (a Dr. Seuss character) to birthday hats. Many hats were homemade and displayed the usual Baker Bear ingenuity.

All week long the children studied the works of Ted Geisel—also known as Dr. Seuss—in their library media classes with Ann Ferruggia. Baker Bears know that as today’s readers, they will be tomorrow’s leaders.

The day ended with a monthly Paw Pride assembly in which Rowe awarded golden tickets to students who displayed perseverance, the word of the month. Classes were also honored for exemplary behavior in their specials classes.
