New Mexican Restaurant In Moorestown Honors Authenticity, Cultural Values

The new restaurant features live-fire cooking, handmade tortillas and artwork curated to tell a story.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Tacoyote, a new Mexican restaurant featuring live-fire cooking and vibrant decorations, has opened in Moorestown.

The eatery was founded by Moorestown residents Steffany and Carlos Meléndez, who also own Coyote Crossing — a locally popular Mexican eatery in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.

Carlos has more than 35 years of restaurant-industry experience, shaping Tacoyote's foundation with respect to traditional techniques. Many dishes are prepared with live-fire Mexican cooking using charcoal and wood, handmade tortillas, and tacos al pastor prepared on a traditional trompo.

"Cooking over live fire and charcoal is about patience, technique, and honoring the ingredients," Carlos Meléndez said in a statement. "It's how I learned, and it’s a tradition I've carried with me throughout my career. Bringing those flavors and methods to Tacoyote is both personal and meaningful."

Tacoyote also incorporates cultural artwork designed to tell a story beyond the plate. The artwork draws inspiration from Catrinas and sugar skulls — cultural symbols in Mexican tradition that honor remembrance, family and the celebration of life.

"The art is intentional," said Steffany Meléndez. "For me, it's a way of honoring heritage through beauty, femininity and storytelling. Every visual element was curated to reflect culture, creativity, and the idea that food and art together can create a powerful sense of connection."

Tacoyote is open for dine-in and takeout at 33 Main St.
