On Saturday, May 11, the Moorestown High School Interact Club hosted its first annual DREAM 5K. Through the efforts of the event’s organizer, Amira Scaramella, more than 60 members of the community participated and raised more than $500 toward starting a DREAM chapter in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
DREAM was established by Dartmouth college students in 2001 to serve children living in local project-based housing. DREAM currently serves hundreds of children in Vermont and Massachusetts through committed mentors who provide adventure opportunities year-round.
According to Scaramella, “When the members of DREAM came to speak to our club, I realized that we in the club could help make a difference in our community. It was something we just had to do. It was wonderful to see the rewards of our hard work and to see our community come through with sponsorships and participation. I learned that the efforts of a few students, and a great cause, can make a difference. We were fortunate to also have the guidance of our club advisors to support this run.”
