MFS Fares Well in New Jersey History Bowl

Four Moorestown Friends School (MFS) students participated in the National History Bowl New Jersey State Championships on Feb. 23 in Princeton.

The MFS History Bowl team of seniors Joe Kiernan (Haddonfield) and Lauren Brown (Voorhees), sophomore Brett Barbin (Cinnaminson), and freshman Josh Murdy (Hainesport) ranked in the top 25 percent of the competing schools and qualified for the National History Bowl Championship in Arlington, VA in April.

Kiernan was a semifinalist in the History Bee, finishing fourth and qualifying for the National History Bee. In the junior varsity category, Barbin also qualified for the National Bee. The competition featured a regional preliminary exam for the U.S. Geography Challenge, in which Kiernan placed first and Barbin received fifth place. Both are now potential contenders for the national geography team that would compete in Kyoto, Japan this summer.
