MOORESTOWN, NJ — Construction of a long-awaited Moorestown apartment complex is underway, with officials and developers celebrating the groundbreaking of Pearl Apartment Homes on Tuesday.

Located right by Moorestown Mall, Pearl will contain 375 apartments. Pre-leasing will begin next summer, with the first move-ins expected next fall.

The project has been on the public radar for a while. In 2021, local officials approved a Moorestown Mall redevelopment plan that included building an apartment complex. A year later, real estate investment trust Bel Canto Asset Growth Fund purchased land on the mall property to develop the facility.

Apartments will range from 1 to 3 bedrooms and feature "chef-inspired kitchens with quartz countertops, sleek stainless-steel appliances, expansive closets and versatile layouts for both living and working," according to Bel Canto.

Amenities for residents will include a fitness center, a "resort-style" swimming pool with a sundeck, and a spa with a massage room. Pearl will also have a parlor with gaming tables and a podcast studio.

Seventy-five apartments will be affordable housing.

Phase 1 of construction will bring a parking garage that's exclusively for residents.

Mayor Quinton Law, who attended the groundbreaking, called the milestone "an exciting new chapter for Moorestown."

"Pearl will expand housing opportunities that meet the needs of our growing and changing community, while also representing a significant investment in our township’s future," Law said. "Developments like this strengthen our local economy, support nearby businesses and help ensure Moorestown remains a vibrant, welcoming place for working families."

Moorestown Mall is in a commercial-heavy part of town. But lately the area has become home to larger residential developments.

A 76-apartment affordable housing complex opened a few blocks away from the mall last month.
