The 'education-based' microbrewery would be the first of its kind in New Jersey, according to project organizers.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — A microbrewery planned for Moorestown's Community House could clear another hurdle this week.

Community House Brewery — an education-focused microbrewery conceptualized for the 99-year-old mansion — is set to go before Moorestown's Planning Board on Thursday.

Rowan College at Burlington County and Haddonfield-based King's Road Brewing Company partnered on the project, which they say will bring the state's first education-based microbrewery to Moorestown.

The brewery, announced a year ago, is designed to provide the college's students with hands-on industry experience.

It will occupy part of the Community House of Moorestown — a historic venue that functions as an independent community center.

If all goes to plan, it will open by late 2025 or early 2026, according to Community House Brewery's website.

The brewery's taproom will occupy the Community House's "library" — a space for wedding ceremonies and other private events. The room, part of the main floor, was home to the Town Library from 1926-76.

The library currently seats 70 to 120 people, depending on the event setup. Community House Brewery expects an average-daily maximum of 55 people in there at once, with a maximum occupancy of 90, according to township documents.

The taproom will feature a bar area and several tables for seating. Brewing will take place in the basement directly below.

King's Road, which has breweries in Haddonfield and Medford, would run Community House Brewery. The Community House would merely serve as the venue.

Moorestown is a historically dry town. But Community House could hold Moorestown's first microbrewery since the Township Council established standards for the businesses in 2021.

Then-Mayor Nicole Gillespie expressed her support for the brewery when it was announced in February 2024.

"I am confident this can be another amazing asset for Main Street," Gillespie said, "where people can gather, connect and enjoy not only exceptional beer but also a sense of community."

Community House Brewery will seek a site-plan waiver from the Planning Board, which organizers called an "important milestone" in the project.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (111 W 2nd St.). Here's the meeting agenda.
