Fernbrook Farms in Chesterfield will be a newcomer, offering wholesale nursery products that include ornamentals, conifers, flowering plants, trees and shrubs.

The farmers market got off to an early start this year, with preseason market days in March and April. The preseason sales will bring additional momentum to the market's opening weekend, said Felicia Hopson, the county commissioner director.

"Those early markets were a big hit and generated even more excitement for the kickoff of our weekly Saturday markets," Hopson said in a news release. "We're expecting Opening Day to be our biggest yet, so make a plan to visit and experience one of the best farmers markets in all of New Jersey."

Opening day will be dedicated to spring gardens. The Master Gardeners will hold presentations on how to grow and care for fig trees at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., along with a composting demonstration at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Market-goers can also learn about wildlife habitats, pollinators and rose care during presentations from the National Wildlife Federation and other organizations.
