Burlington County Farmers Market Voted Best In State

The weekly market in Moorestown was NJ's top vote-getter in an annual contest run by American Farmland Trust.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Burlington County Farmers Market was crowned best in New Jersey, becoming New Jersey's top vote-getter in America's Farmers Market Celebration's annual contest.

American Farmland Trust lets the public vote for their favorite farmers market in an annual contest. The Burlington County Farmers Market received 1,483 votes — only 11 ahead of West Windsor, the second-place finisher.

Burlington County's market, which takes place Saturdays in Moorestown, also finished third in the Northeast. The contest's two-month voting period ended Wednesday.

"Burlington County is No. 1 in New Jersey for acres of farmland preserved," said County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson, "and we’re proud to now be the home of New Jersey’s No. 1 farmers market. This is a big win for Burlington County’s farms, small business owners and the residents who support them and our market."

The contest, called America’s Farmers Market Celebration, is an initiative to showcase farmers markets throughout the nation. The annual poll is sponsored by American Farmland Trust — an organization focused on promoting agriculture and preserving farmland.

Winning farmers markets receive a combined $15,000 to support marketing and outreach. As the state's first-place finisher, the Burlington County Farmers Market will get $100.

The Burlington County Farmers Market is held rain or shine from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday at the Burlington County Agricultural Center (500 Centerton Rd., Moorestown). The market season runs through Nov. 23, with a special holiday market on Dec. 7.
