Elementary School Open Houses Focus on Arts and Literacy
Moorestown Education Association/Home and School-sponsored open houses give parents a window into their children's school day.
Elementary school parents will again get a chance this week and next to see firsthand what their children are learning about in school.
After missing last year due to , the Moorestown Education Association in partnership with the Home and School Association will host open houses at all three lower elementary schools this Thursday, along with open houses at the next Wednesday and Thursday.
“It’s a nice time for the kids to bring in their parents and show them how much progress they’ve made,” said Bridgett Potts, a teacher at who’s helping to organize the open house. “They show them their work. They show them their desk.”
Potts said this year’s open houses will have a two-fold focus on the arts and literacy. Student artwork will be displayed throughout the hallways of each school to give the evening “almost the feel of an art walk,” she said.
The open houses are being held in conjunction with the Home and School book fair as well, which runs all this week and will hold special nighttime hours for the open houses. Each elementary school teacher will be reading a book from the book fair in the classrooms throughout the night.
Potts said Home and School will also hold contests where students can win books, posters and other prizes.
The following open houses will be held at the lower elementary schools this Thursday:
— 5:30-8 p.m. (The book fair and Smile Program begin at 5:30, with the full open house kicking off at 6 p.m.)
Roberts — 7-8:30 p.m.
South Valley — 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Open houses will be held at the Upper Elementary School from 6-7 p.m. next Wednesday and Thursday.
