Catalytic Converter Theft Spike Spurs Free Event In Burlington Co.
Burns Honda and Evesham Police Department will sponsor Etch and Protect this Sunday.
MARLTON, NJ — A sharp increase in catalytic converter thefts in South Jersey has led Burns Honda and the Evesham Police Department to sponsor a free Etch and Protect program this weekend.
"We'll burn, or etch, your car's vehicle identification number into the catalytic converter, then we'll put some kind of glue over it to protect [the number] from corrosion," said Lieutenant Daniel Burdette, Evesham Police Department's Public Information Officer.
This short process will go a long way in deterring would-be catalytic converter thieves since the number's presence makes the item harder to resell, he said.

The event will be held on Sunday at Burns Honda along Route 73 in Marlton from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Burdette said.
Appointments are required and can be made by calling Joanne Naurath at 856-702-6143 or Alex Bradley at 856-702-6158, according to Burdette.
