Incumbents Keep 2 School Board Seats, Dems Retain Moorestown Council

Newcomer Danielle Miller is winning over a Moorestown School Board incumbent by 66 votes as of Wednesday, unofficial results show.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Voters in Moorestown appear to have selected incumbents for most positions on Tuesday night in races for school board, township council, and county commissioner.

Mayor Nicole Gillespie and Councilman Quinton Moore, both Democrats, declared victory Tuesday night in their re-election campaign for Moorestown Township Council.

Gillespie has served as mayor since 2020 and was first elected to council in 2018.

Results are unofficial; vote-by-mail and provisional ballots may affect final totals.

In the school board race, unofficial results show sitting Moorestown Public School members Claudine Leone Morano and Mark Villanueva got the most votes, with non-member Danielle Miller edging out incumbent Billie D. Thomas by 66 votes as of Wednesday afternoon:

Brooke Mailhiot, a newcomer, took the one-year unexpired position and was running unopposed.

Democrats are forecast to keep the sheriff's office and county commissioner seat.

Current undersheriff James J. Kostoplis, a Democrat, has a lead of about 18,000 votes over Republican Mike Ditzel to take over the Burlington County Sheriff's position.

One county commissioner seat was on the ballot, and unofficial results show sitting Democrat Allison Eckel is up on GOP challenger Jeff Fortune by 20,000 votes.

In total, the county reports more than 45 percent of registered voters cast ballots for Tuesday's election: 162,031 people voted of 356,496 registered.

And there will be no change in Washington for Moorestown residents, as incumbent Democrat Andy Kim is forecast to beat Republican yacht company executive Bob Healey in the 3rd Congressional District.
