Indoor Pickleball Club Planned For Moorestown Reaches Next Steps

The nation's fastest-growing sport, which has reached a wave of picklers in South Jersey, has been approved for a local shopping center.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — A pickleball club planned for Moorestown just came one step closer to opening.

The Moorestown Zoning Board approved ACE Pickleball Club's plans on Tuesday to bring the nation's fastest-growing sport to the East Gate Square shopping center.

ACE has pickleball clubs scattered throughout the nation. Franchisees Ira Krassen and Eric Danvers opening one in Voorhees last year. Now, the pair is onto their second serve, with a larger facility underway in Moorestown.

With the Zoning Board's approval, ACE Pickleball can construct the Moorestown facility. The hope to open in early fall, says Butch Beri, ACE Pickleball's programming manager.

"(The) Voorhees (location) has been so successful," Beri told Patch, "and I know we have a huge pickleball community in South Jersey that is looking forward to us opening with more courts and a bigger facility in Moorestown."

The 32,950-square-foot location will have 11 courts, according to blueprints submitted to the Zoning Board. It will occupy the former Michael's store and space that was previously part of the Staples next door.

Pickleball is the nation's fastest-growing sport, with participation rising among every age group, according to research from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. The sport — which combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis — has generated a wide appeal through its accessibility and short learning curve.

Players of all experience levels are welcome at ACE Pickleball Club, which divides courts by skill level, according to the Moorestown club's webpage.

Members can drop in and play anytime the club is open, with no reservations required. However, members can also reserve courts at no extra cost.

East Gate Square is located on Nixon Drive at the Moorestown/Mount Laurel border.
