"I'm proud of the impact I was able to make in this short time and hope to see a continued focus on putting students first," Makopoulos said in a statement. "Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a voice for you."

Meanwhile, the Democratic candidates lead the Town Council race, which has three available seats. Sue Mammarella and Christopher Keating are incumbents. James A. Barry is running to succeed Council Member Dave Zipin, a fellow Democrat who didn't run for re-election.

Polling places across Burlington County had long lines because of technical issues with the county's new voting machines, which has delayed election results. A judge ordered the county's polling places to stay open later so residents could cast their votes.

All results are unofficial until certified by the county clerk.
