MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown resident Claudine Leone writes that she supports Jill Fallows Macaluso for Board of Education because of her tireless advocacy on behalf of the parents and children in the school district. Her letter to the editor can be found below.

To the Editor:

I’m a professional advocate who worked 24/7 throughout the pandemic on state COVID guidance for healthcare professionals, summer camps, and childcare. So, when a rare free evening came to escape COVID policymaking, I embraced the downtime with my husband and children (9th grade and college). Like many I chose not to sacrifice those precious evenings to attend Moorestown BOE meetings in early months of COVID.

Enter Jill Fallows Macaluso.

Jill was unique in her tireless advocacy, putting herself out there and “speaking up” on behalf of our children and parents frustrated with the lack of transparency and the inertia of the Administration and BOE’s pandemic policies. I didn’t know Jill. I was impressed by the professionalism of her public comments, communications to the Administration/BOE, and respectful interactions with parents throughout this pandemic.

Jill’s activism motivated hundreds of parents with varying perspectives, including me, to speak up and join the BOE Zoom calls. Jill’s advocacy was laser focused on a call for MTPS Administration and Board to be more proactive, transparent, adaptable, and informed of all the options at their disposal throughout the pandemic.

I have never considered Jill to be aligned with “a side” or stuck in an unbending position. It has always been apparent that Jill dedicates countless hours analyzing data and researching issues before sharing her thoughts with the community and BOE. She was inclusive listening to parents with differing viewpoints and requesting meetings with union reps to hear from our teachers.

Jill is now running for one of the three open seats on the BOE on November 2, 2021 (early voting locations open October 23, 2021). I couldn’t be more pleased to support Jill for election to the BOE. I encourage everyone to learn more about Jill through @JillforBOE Facebook page or jillforboe@gmail.com.
