New Educational Items Added To Moorestown Library's Collection
The new items, called sensory packs, include objects that encourage users to employ all five senses, the library's executive director said.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Moorestown Library recently added Sensory Play Packs to the items that patrons can check out.
The new items "are backpacks filled with toys, books and other interesting objects designed to support and encourage sensory play ... this includes stimulating and/or engaging any of the five senses, but also supports balance, movement and spatial awareness," Joan Serpico, the library's executive director, told Patch.
Sensory play also encourages "exploring, investigating, building fine and gross motor skills, language development, problem-solving, curiosity, creativity and becoming more familiar with sensory experiences that might otherwise be strange, upsetting or overwhelming," she added.

The library currently has three sensory packs: the first, "Under the Sea," contains beach- and ocean-themed items; the second, "Let’s Build" consists of construction toys; and the third, "To the Moon!" contains aliens and other objects associated with space, according to Serpico.
The Sensory Play Packs can be checked out for 14 days at a time and can be reserved in advance, she said. More information about these packs can be obtained by contacting the library, she said.
