No One Has Stepped Forward To Save Historic Building In Moorestown
A representative for the building's owner has indicated the owner would like to tear the building down.
MOORESTOWN, NJ — No one had stepped forward as of last week to preserve the 133-year-old building at 334 Chester Avenue in Moorestown, a borough official said.
George Matteo, a representative for building and property owner Levins Group, told the Moorestown Appearance Committee in May that his group would like to tear the building down and build two, perhaps three, properties on the site.
Matteo also told the Appearance committee that the Levins Group may be "open to an alternate path" besides demolition.

After hearing Matteo's comments and after consulting with a preservation expert, the Appearance Committee recommended to the township council that the building be saved.
However, "the township is not proposing" to buy the property, Moorestown Township Manager Kevin Aberant told Patch. "At this point, there has been nothing further submitted."

If preservation efforts go unheeded, the property owner could demolish the building as early as October, according to Aberant.
