Obituary: Sonja Nordlund James

Ms. James grew up in Maple Shade, New Jersey and she was an honors graduate of Moorestown High School.

Sonja Nordlund James of Lumberton, New Jersey and Sun City, South Carolina passed away on June 11, 2022 in Mt. Holly. Ms. James was the widow of her beloved husband, John “Jack” James, who died in 2017.

Ms. James grew up in Maple Shade, New Jersey and she was an honors graduate of Moorestown High School. After a successful career managing a corporation located in Haddonfield, New Jersey, Ms. James attended Camden County College where she graduated with honors. She established a new career as an income tax preparer.

Sonja and Jack were active in many organizations and loved attending Philadelphia Orchestra concerts. When the Philadelphia Kimmel Center was constructed Sonja’s name was inscribed on one of the glass walkway panels. Later in life, Sonja and Jack became avid motor home enthusiasts. They loved to travel the world, particularly on long cruses. During their last European cruise Sonja stopped in Helsinki to visit her extended Finnish family. Sonja will long be remembered as a gracious hostess who gave elegant dinner parties.

She is survived by her cousins, Alma Saravia, of Burlington and Jeanne Jacobson of Portland Oregon, as well as her extended Finnish family. Sonja is also survived by her sister-in-law Doris (James) Crowley and Ms. Crowley’s children Pamela (Steven) Robbins, Jeffrey Crowley and David Crowley and their children and grandchildren.
