MOORESTOWN, NJ — Lena Watson likes to think of her business, the painting studio inside Moorestown Mall known as The Remixx, as "a little like paint by numbers, minus the numbers and lots more fun."

Watson and her 18-year-old daughter opened the business in April. Since then, they have hosted many walk-in curiosity seekers-turned customers and multiple parties for birthdays, graduations, baby showers, date nights and other special events, she said.

The mother-daughter team also accepts commissions to create custom works of art for home decor, offices and businesses, either from scratch or following a customer's direction, according to Watson.

All projects that originate from The Remixx, unlike many other painting studios with a similar theme, use large canvases up to eight feet tall and four feet wide. A large selection of paints, from the very bright to the very dull, from the basics to the blends and many other colors in between, she told Patch.

Setting up the business inside the Moorestown Mall was a "no-brainer" for the Pennsauken native, according to Watson.

"I grew up in Pennsauken and always came to the Moorestown Mall when I was younger. I loved the idea of bringing something different to the mall to bring new and old shoppers into the mall," she said.

"I feel honored to be a business owner in a place where I grew up. Moorestown has a great sense of community, and I thought it would be something families would enjoy," she said.

Running The Remixx also allows her to share her love of art and painting and the therapy these things can provide.

"Art is something that helps me focus less on the chaos around me and more on just creating something beautiful, and I believe it does the same for others," Watson said.

"It's also a great way for families, couples and friends to spend memorable quality time together [and] have the power to save lives and make people feel a sense of happiness or hope during difficult times," Watson said.

"So many people think they can't paint until they leave our place with a really good-looking work of art," she continued. "I wanted to create a space where people could feel inspired while guiding them through the process of making something special."
