Speed Humps Coming To Several Moorestown Roads

The humps will be installed within a few weeks, said Mooretown Township Manager Kevin Aberant.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Several speed humps will be installed along South Browning and Washington avenues in Moorestown in the next few weeks, said Township Manager Kevin Aberant.

Residents have told Moorestown Township Council that speeding is a problem in that part of the township, and asked the township to install a four-way stop sign there, he said.

However, research indicated that would not solve the problem, according to Aberant.

"The engineers say that's not what four-way stops are for," he said in a recent report to the council. "The [engineers] recommend other traffic calming measures like striping and speed humps."

In mid-June, the council tentatively agreed to install speed humps. However, given the number of residents who had wanted a four-way stop to control speeding, the council tasked Aberant with finding out how residents felt about speed humps before giving the plan its final approval.

Aberant presented his findings to the council in late August.

"One resident responded 'I don't want it in front of my house, I don't think you should do this,'" he said. "The other comments I received indicated people were on board with having something done, they understood there will be some impact on the neighborhood .... they thought it was a minor inconvenience and recognize the safety that will come with this."

The council agreed to have speed humps installed. These devices should cost the township up to $5,500 each, according to Aberant.
