Mustard Seed Cooperative Garden Offers Spring/Summer 2025 Internship
The Mustard Seed Cooperative Garden at First Presbyterian Church serves the Moorestown community by growing fresh produce and donating it to our neighbors in need. Located on the church property, the Garden produced approximately 650 pounds of vegetables and berries during the 2024 growing season (March through October) and donated all of it to two food distribution ministries in Moorestown to share with those they serve.
The Garden is seeking a paid intern for the 2025 growing season, with most of the work completed between June 15 and August 31. Prior to June 15 the intern will work approximately 15 hours in total between March 15 and June 15, learning how the garden is managed and participating in the spring preparation and planting of the garden. As the garden enters the primary growing season in mid-June, the intern will work 5 hours per week on the following tasks:

3) maintaining the compost,
4) ensuring that the garden log book is maintained,
5) ensuring that the garden is adequately watered (note: the garden has an automated drip irrigation system that requires additional hand-watering during particularly hot weather),
6) attending periodic garden committee meetings.
The intern will be trained and supervised by the Garden Coordinator.
Qualifications for Interns:
- Must be available 5 hours per week between June 15 - August 31, 2025. Hours will primarily be in the early evening (i.e. 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.) on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, plus a few hours on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays to help deliver the food. The intern should be available to work for 5 hours during these time frames. We realize that the intern may need some time off for vacation or other activities and we are open to that.
- Must be very reliable and able to communicate with the Garden Coordinator, responding to texts and/or email messages within 24 hours.
- Gardening can be hot, sweaty and dirty work. We do much of our work in the morning and evening for this reason, but the intern should be prepared for a job that entails physical labor.
- Prior work experience (including yard work for neighbors, babysitting and similar informal jobs) is desirable, but not required. Prior gardening experience is not required.
- Must be at least 14 years old; there is no maximum age limit.
Pay is $17 per hour, with a maximum total of 62 paid hours of work during the internship. Contact Leslie Spencer at spencer@rowan.edu or 215-584-7659 if you are interested in the position. We will accept applications until the position is filled.
The church is located at 101 Bridgeboro Road in Moorestown.
