Street Racing Caused Fatal Crash In Burlington Co.: Police
Authorities are trying to identify a vehicle that they say was linked to the fiery crash that also injured several officers.

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ — A driver who police rescued from a fiery crash scene last week in Mount Holly has succumbed to their injuries, officials said Tuesday. Investigators determined that street racing caused the accident.
Two vehicles crashed around 9:45 p.m. Feb. 18 on Route 38 in Mount Holly. The driver of a vehicle that overturned and caught fire was flown to a trauma center in critical condition.
Several officers were injured while rescuing the driver, who later succumbed to their injuries, said Mount Holly Police Cpt. Clifford R. Spencer.

Police are withholding the driver's name "out of respect for the family," Spencer said.
"Evidence indicated that the crash was the result of street racing, and it is crucial that we identify all individuals involved," Spencer continued in a statement.

Police are still trying to identify another vehicle that they say was linked to the crash (see the photo above).
Spencer warned of the dangers of street racing on public roadways.
"High speeds, unpredictable traffic, and lack of safety measures make for a lethal combination," Spencer said, "one that puts not only drivers at risk but also passengers, bystanders, and innocent motorists. It will simply not be tolerated, and will leave a lasting impact on the families and all those involved."
Mount Holly police urged anyone who was in the area of Route 38 between Mount Laurel and Mount Holly between 9:30 and 9:50 p.m. Feb. 18 and witnessed the crash and/or pictured vehicle to call Det. Fenton or Det. Simpson at 609-267-8300.
