As Temperatures Drop, Burlington County Officials Issue 'Code Blue'

BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ — A drop in temperature has prompted Burlington County health officials to issue a Code Blue from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Monday.

The county issues Code Blue declarations when weather conditions pose a threat of serious injury or death to those people without shelter. Short-term shelter is available in clean, safe locations to people who need it during a Code Blue declaration.

Overnight temperatures on Sunday may drop to 25 degrees, according to Accuweather. Temperatures may also dip below 30 degrees on Friday and Monday overnight, the forecast shows.

Commissioner Felicia Hopson said officials are encouraging anyone in need of warm shelter to reach out.

“Our Code Blue sheltering program is ready and we don’t want anyone to have to spend the night outdoors or in unsafe conditions," said Hopson, who is the liaison to the Burlington County Health Department and county Department of Human Services.
