Travel Discouraged As Snow Blankets Moorestown
The region could get 6 inches of snow, with dropping temperatures icing up roads later on, according to forecasters.
MOORESTOWN, NJ — School has been canceled and road travel discouraged Friday as snow blankets Moorestown.
The National Weather Service (NWS) expects 4-6 inches of snow in the area through Friday evening. Dropping temperatures could make roadways icy in the nighttime, the agency said.

"Burlington County residents are urged to limit travel (Friday) if possible," the county said. "For those who are on the roads, please drive cautiously and give yourself extra time and increase your following distance so you have ample time to stop. If you encounter a plow or salt truck, please give them ample space and do not attempt to pass them."
The county received an additional 1,200 tons of salt Thursday. All 67 of its trucks and plows have been mobilized, while municipal crews have also been working to clear roadways.

The NJ Department of Transportation banned commercial vehicles from many interstate highways. The mandate, which went into effect at 3 a.m. Friday, includes all of Interstates 76 and 676. Read more: NJ Issues Commercial Vehicle Restrictions On Various State Highways
Dozens of school districts in Burlington County, including Moorestown's, canceled Friday classes and activities.
A winter storm warning for Moorestown and much of South Jersey remains in effect through 10 p.m. Friday. Even as snowfall tapers off, temperatures will "rapidly" drop into the teens late Friday night, the NWS said. Any untreated roads will become icy and dangerous, the agency warned.
Here's the NWS's latest forecast for northwestern Burlington County:
- Friday: Snow. Snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches. Cold. Near steady temperature around 30. Northeast winds around 10 mph. Chance of snow near 100 percent.
- Friday night: Cloudy with a chance of snow in the evening, then partly cloudy after midnight. Total snow accumulation of 4 to 6 inches possible. Colder with lows around 16. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 50 percent.
- Saturday: Mostly sunny. Areas of blowing snow. Cold with highs in the mid-20s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
- Saturday night: Mostly cloudy in the evening, then clearing. Areas of blowing snow. Cold with lows around 16. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
- Sunday: Sunny, cold with highs in the upper 20s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
