MOORESTOWN, NJ — Fall doesn’t officially start until the autumnal equinox on Monday, Sept. 22, but the season is already underway at apple orchards within driving distance of Moorestown.

Patch has compiled a list of some of the best apple orchards and family-friendly fall attractions in the area. Before you go, be sure to call ahead or check the orchard’s website to clarify hours of operation or to check for the availability of apples.

Hill Creek Farms

  • Address: 1631 Route 45, Mullica Hill
  • Hours: Friday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Details: Hill Creek Farms is open for one final season before it begins a new chapter as MC Farms. Fall U-Pick includes apples, pears and sunflowers. There are also hayrides, scenic views, kid's activities and visits from Mr. Apple.

Duffield's Farm & Market

  • Address: 280 Chapel Heights Rd., Sewell
  • Hours: Apple picking rides are 12-5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays (subject to harvest and crop availability).
  • Details: During the fall, Duffield's offers hayrides, apple and pumpkin picking, and other seasonal activities.

Johnson's Corner Farm

  • Hours: apple picking season runs through Oct. 12 (subject to change); fall harvest hayrides run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Details: Among other fall festivities, Johnson's Corner Farm offers hayrides in which customers can pick apples, pumpkins, sunflowers and gourds.

Mood's Farm Market

  • Address: 901 Bridgeton Pike, Mullica Hill
  • Hours: picking hours are Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Details: Apple picking is available until Thanksgiving. Picking is also available for yellow peaches, blackberries, raspberries and Concord grapes. Bring your own bucket, box or reusable bag.

This should be a good year for apple picking, according to the 2025 forecast from the U.S. Apple Association, which estimates the harvest will be 6 percent higher than in 2024, for a total of 273 million bushels.

That estimate is based on USDA data from the top seven apple-producing states — respectively, Washington, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, Oregon and Virginia. When other states are considered, total production could be as much as 290 million bushels, the industry trade group said.
