When Moorestown Theater Co. (MTC) lifts the curtain on its production of 101 Dalmatians Kids this weekend, it could very well be the greenest cast the company has ever staged.

MTC producing artistic director Mark Morgan said 15 of the show's cast members—all ages 6 through 12—are making their MTC debuts with this show, and probably 10 or so are performing in their first-ever show.

"It may be a record," Morgan remarked, also noting that there are 14 boys in the cast of 43, a number that's also "unheard of."

He admitted the cast's limited experience presented challenges, but the difficulties were outweighed by the joy of seeing the children experience theater for the first time.

"It's always wonderful to break in kids who haven't done it before," said Morgan. "It's definitely a younger cast, but that's the goal—to let kids at a younger age start to get lead roles ... For the most part, these rookies are just eligible for the first time."
