Morris Township Residents Can Help Decide Future Of Madison Avenue

The visioning process seeks to give the community a voice in shaping the kinds of development proposals for the Madison Avenue Corridor.

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Economic Development Advisory Committee, in collaboration with the Township Committee, announced their intention to create a strategy survey for the Madison Avenue Corridor, a section of Madison Avenue located within Morris Township between the Normandy Parkway and the Canfield Road/Convent Road intersections.

The visioning process aims to give the community a say in shaping the types of development proposals for the Corridor that may be considered in the future.

The Corridor is in a transitional phase, and the goal of the EDAC survey is to provide input so that the Township's and its residents' interests and vision are considered in any future Corridor projects.

"It is very important to note that the Corridor consists of all privately owned properties. This is not public or Township property that can simply be developed or converted into gardens, parks, or green space," township officials said.

Here are some of the current changes that are already underway for the Corridor:

  • RH (Restoration Hardware) purchased The Abbey, located at 355 Madison Ave (corner of Canfield Road), and is currently under construction for their new showroom/dining facility.
  • The Primrose School is currently under construction for their new childcare facility located at 204 Madison Ave (the former Wells Fargo branch location).
  • 299 Madison Avenue will remain a commercial entity with anticipated renovations for new tenants and parking that meets medical use facilities.

The survey is a significant component of EDAC's initiative and is designed to gather preliminary feedback from residents. A separate virtual "visioning session" will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
