5 Years For Woman That Killed Friend In Drunk Crash: MCPO

A Rockaway Township 22-year-old will spend the next five years in jail, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

ROCKAWAY, NJ — A Rockaway woman has been sentenced to five years in jail for causing a drunk driving crash that killed her friend, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp said on Friday.

Samantha Viscardi, 22, from Rockaway, previously pled guilty to one count of second degree reckless vehicular homicide, as well as driving while intoxicated. Her five-year sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act.

Vicardi was charged following a February 2019 crash that killed her friend, whom prosecutor's have not named. She reportedly told police she'd had several drinks, including three shots, while out with a friend, court documents said. She was driving on Green Pond Road when she checked her cell phone and lost control of the car, the Daily Record reported. Only one car was involved in the crash, Knapp said.
