American Sign Language Courses To Be Offered at CCM

Classes in ASL will begin in the fall.

The County College of Morris will offer American Sign Language starting in the upcoming fall semester, according to a press release from the college.

The classes will be credited and will be offered during both day and evening sessions.

“Since ASL is also one of the most commonly taught languages in American colleges and universities, these courses, in most cases, easily transfer as credits to meet humanities requirements, free electives and even diversity requirements,” said Professor Jose Ortiz-Batista, chair of the Languages and ESL department. “Given that the overall enrollment in languages is increasing and American Sign Language is becoming even more popular, we eventually hope to offer more levels and an ASL teaching program in the future. “
