Cop In Serious Condition After Hit By Jeep In Morris County: Prosecutor

Driver charged with assault by auto and aggravated assault; passenger charged with drug possession and throwing bodily fluids at an officer.

DOVER, N.J. – A Dover police officer was hospitalized Saturday after he was struck by a vehicle while responding to a call of individuals sleeping in a car, Morris County Prosecutor Fredrick Knapp.

At 4 p.m. Dover police officers were dispatched to a call concerning multiple individuals sleeping in a vehicle, Knapp said. Officers arrived on scene and approached the vehicle, and in doing so, the driver of the vehicle began to drive over the curb and onto the sidewalk, ultimately striking the police officer, Knapp said.

The officer, who was not named, was injured and suffered serious bodily injuries, Knapp said.

The driver, Michael Medici, 29, of Rockaway, was charged with aggravated assault, a crime of the second degree, and assault by auto, a third-degree crime.

The passenger, Colleen McDonough, 32 and also of Rockaway, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, throwing bodily fluids at a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.

The officer remains in Morristown Medical Center. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Knapp said.
