Cops: Residents Foil Man's Break-In Attempt

Police say an 18-year-old Mendham Borough resident tried to break into a Gregory Terrace home. But, a few observant residents and their call to the cops stopped that from happening.

David Domiter, of Emery Avenue in Mendham, was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal trespassing and criminal mischief June 17 shortly before 2 a.m.

Officer Eddy Pichardo responded to the scene, where witnesses told him they had seen a man—described as white, 5-foot-10, about 130 pounds with long blonde hair, wearing a white T-shirt and carrying a black laptop bag—climbing a steel ladder in order to try and get inside the residence, according to Pichardo's report.

When the witness asked the man what he was doing, he responded, "nothing, just talking," and immediately began walking at a fast pace away from the scene, according to the report.

While Pichardo was at the scene, the witness' sister and owner of the property called her sibling and said she saw the guy in the area of Spring Street, where both Morristown and Morris Township police stopped him, according to the report.

The two witnesses were driven to where Domiter was being held and positively identified him as the person who had tried to break into the rear window of the property, according to the report. 

A Morris County Sherrif's Department officer also was able to get a possible fingerprint from the window Domiter had attempted to open, according to the report.

Domiter was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail, according to the report.
