Craigslist Founder Donates $25K To Morris Literacy Volunteers

The famous Morristown native is giving back to the community with a $25,000 literacy donation.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Craig Newmark, the founder of Craigslist and a Morristown native, has donated $25,000 to support the Literacy Volunteers of Morris County.

The donation comes from Newark's charitable foundation, Craig Newmark Philanthropies. It will benefit the organization's adult literacy efforts.

"I am delighted that Craig Newmark, a graduate of Morristown High School, has not forgotten his roots, and is focused on helping others and making the world a better place," Debbie Leon, Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of Morris County, said in a press release. “His support will enable us to help hundreds of people in Morris County to improve their lives."

Literacy Volunteers of Morris County has 300 tutors that help over 500 people learn to read and write English with the goal that they can "learn their legal rights, and become more engaged and active citizens and members of the community."
