Design Contest For Morristown Flag Set To Open Soon
The student-led initiative will soon seek design submissions for a brand-new Morristown flag, with the goal of instilling community pride.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — It's time to get creative. The official design contest for the Morristown town flag is anticipated to begin soon, and all locals are invited to participate.
The idea behind the flag contest came from Max Bellamente, a senior at Morristown High School, who proposed the idea of a flag design competition during a town council meeting last fall.
According to Bellamente, he wanted to find a way to give back to the community before he leaves after graduation. The flag design contest was met with full support by Mayor Tim Dougherty and the Morristown Town Council.

The contest's Instagram page, Motown Flag, recently posted a post informing the public that the flag contest will begin soon and that the official launch date will be announced shortly.
Bellamente informed the council that he was unaware of a Morristown flag and believes that, after witnessing the pride Madison Borough has in its town flag, Morristown would benefit from having one to help foster town pride.

Dougherty praised the idea and agreed that a future flag could be hung and displayed in public places, such as the town hall.
Bellamente also stated that future fundraisers may be held to help raise funds for the distribution of flags throughout the town and to local emergency services such as the police and fire departments.
Officials claim that Morristown held a flag design competition in 1972; however, the winning design was never adopted by the council, and as a result, never really took root in the community.
