MORRISTOWN, NJ — Linda Murphy grew up in Morristown and graduated from Morristown High School. Wanting to give back to her community, she returned as a math teacher before becoming principal.

Murphy died Nov. 2, leaving Greater Morristown's educational community to remember her monumental impact.

"Linda was a kind, caring, and devoted educator who connected deeply with students, families, colleagues and community members," said Dr. Thomas Ficarra, interim superintendent of the Morris School District. "I was fortunate to have worked closely with her for many years and to witness firsthand the tremendous difference she made in people’s lives. Her warmth and gentle humor will certainly be missed by all who knew her."

Murphy served as principal for seven years, before getting appointed to become the district's director of human resources and community engagement.

"We were saddened to hear of the sudden loss of Linda Murphy," said Melissa Spiotta, president of the Morris School District's Board of Education. "She was beloved by many in our community. After her career at the MSD, her passion led her to the Neighborhood House where she continued to be an advocate for our young people. We are sending thoughts and prayers to her friends and family."
