Driver Who Ran Over Cop Was Feeling 'Effects Of Methadone': Report

Michael Medici's bail lowered from $100K to $75K, report says.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Michael Medici was high on “pills and methadone” when he allegedly stepped on the accelerator in his Jeep and ran down a Dover police officer Saturday afternoon.

According to nj.com, Medici, 29, of Rockaway, admitted to police he was high and his actions were a result of the “effects of methadone.”

Medici appeared in Superior Court in Morristown Monday for a hearing in which Judge Stephen Taylor dropped his bail from $100,000 to $75,000 with no 10-percent option, the report said.

Dover police officer Timothy Thiel responded to a call for individuals sleeping in a running vehicle Saturday, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said.

Officers arrived on scene and approached the vehicle, and in doing so, the driver of the vehicle began to drive over the curb and onto the sidewalk, ultimately striking the police officer, Knapp said.

Thiel suffered a broken leg, broken ribs and head injuries, the report said.

Medici was charged with aggravated assault and assault by auto. His passenger, Colleen McDonough, 32, of Rockaway, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, throwing bodily fluids at a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.

The bail hearing revealed McDonough was in possession of 40 Clonazepam pills, the report said.
