Electric Cars Roll Into Morristown

Morristown will hold National Drive Electric Week event on Saturday showcasing electric vehicles.

Gone are the days when a flume of gray smoke puffing out of a car's tailpipe was considered normal. Our idea of the standard car, continues to evolve as a result of enforced exhaust regulations and advancing technology. If electric car aficionados, who come Saturday are celebrating National Drive Electric Week, have anything to say about it, the standard car is a sleek, purring, environment-friendly machine.

Electric car enthusiasts across the nation will come out in droves beginning this Saturday, September 10, to celebrate and learn about electric cars. Morristown will hold its own National Drive Electric Week event on Saturday, one of 224 across the nation throughout the coming week, providing attendees with not only information about electric car efficiency, but also giving drivers a chance to get behind the wheel of a BMW i3, provided by BMW of Morristown.

The event will also play host to a fully restored 1917 Detroit Electric Model 68, which will be on display, and the owners of the 68, who will be on site to answer questions about how this vehicle was restored. Electric cyclist, Ben Rich, who traversed the lower 48 states with his electric bike, will also regale visitors with tales of his trip.

Drive Electric Week began in 2011 as National Plug In Day, a way for people of like mind to emphasize the thing they all want to do: drive electric. The nationwide celebration heightens awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlights the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.
