EMT Instructor Sexually Assaulted Teen In Morris County: Lawsuit

The alleged incident occurred in 2022, while the victim was pursuing a career as an emergency medical technician in Morris County.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — An EMT instructor has been accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old while training to become an emergency medical technician at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.

On July 14, Kamari Massicott, a Summit resident, filed a lawsuit in Union County Superior Court against instructor Al Epstein, Morris County, and the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.

Massicott is seeking a judgment against the defendants for compensatory and punitive damages, as well as interest, attorneys' fees and court costs.

The lawsuit claims that the alleged sexual assault occurred on or before July 25, 2022, while Massicott was still a minor and Epstein was tasked with training him.

The Morris County Public Safety Training Academy is located in Morris Plains at 500 West Hanover Avenue. The academy, which bills itself as a multi-faceted training facility, offers courses for first responders, police officers, and firefighters.

Massicott, according to the lawsuit, has suffered significant physical, mental and emotional pain and suffering as a result of the assault; he has been unable to engage in his usual activities and has incurred medical expenses.

"Defendants, County of Morris and/or Morris County Public Safety Training Academy... are vicariously liable for the actions of the defendant, Al Epstein," the lawsuit states.

Morris County spokesman Vince Vitale was not immediately available for comment on the matter.
