After performing a welfare check requested by a family friend, members of the local police discovered the family all visibly deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll described the event as "a tragic murder-suicide brought on by domestic violence. It is a heartbreaking loss for the Ventricelli family. Neighbors, schoolmates, friends and the Roxbury community as a whole are mourning this shocking and senseless loss of life."

Following the murders, a GoFundMe page was created by Carlo Ventricelli, Peter’s nephew, to help raise funds for funeral expenses. The fund has raised more than $70,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.

A separate GoFundMe page, with the goal of creating a memorial scholarship, has also been created by a close family friend and is supported by Kellie's immediate family.

The scholarship fund aims to assist Roxbury High School students on their career path to technical vocational school, which will aid in the development of their trade.

"Anthony was a sophomore at Roxbury High School and was accepted into a technical vocational school to become a welder following his graduation," the organizers wrote. "Kellie always supported Anthony. In his passions and in their honor, we are asking for donations to help a fellow Roxbury student pursue his or her dream of working in a trade profession."
