2 New Year's Shootings In Newark: 1 In Critical Condition, Teen Is 'Stable': Police

Two shootings took place on New Year's Day. Each happened within about 10 minutes of each other, authorities say.

NEWARK, NJ – Two shootings took place in Newark on New Year’s Day. Each happened within about 10 minutes of each other, authorities say.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the first shooting took place around 8:40 p.m. on Thursday.

Police responded to University Hospital after getting a call that a man was driven there in a private vehicle for treatment of a gunshot injury. The victim was driven to the hospital by a concerned citizen who found them at Isabella Avenue and South Orange Avenue.

The victim is reportedly in critical condition, authorities said.

Another shooting took place around 8:49 p.m. in Newark, police said.

A 17-year-old male arrived at University Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his foot. The shooting happened at 200 Georgia King Village, police said.

The teen is reportedly in stable condition, authorities said.

Police are investigating both shootings. No additional information was immediately available.
