Homeless Man Killed With Rock At Morris Co. Train Station: Cops

The victim has been identified as Rene Rivera Hernandez, 47, a homeless individual who frequented the Dover area, police said.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — An arrest has been made in connection with the death of a 47-year-old man who was found dead on the railroad tracks near West Clinton Street in Dover early Wednesday morning.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll announced the arrest of Wilfredo Cabrera-Masariegos, 34, of Dover, on Thursday morning.

Dover police responded to the scene at 1:56 a.m. on Wednesday and located the deceased man, who has since been identified as Rene Rivera Hernandez, a homeless individual who frequented the Dover area.

The Morris County Medical Examiner's Office determined that Rivera Hernandez died as a result of a blunt force injury to the head, and the cause of death has been ruled a homicide.

According to authorities, Cabrera-Masariegos and Rivera Hernandez were on the railroad tracks under a highway bridge in the late evening hours of July 25. Cabrera- Masariegos is accused of hitting Rivera Hernandez in the head with a rock before fleeing the scene.

Cabrera-Masariegos was charged with one count of second-degree manslaughter, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon, and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The motive behind the attack was not made clear by the police.

Cabrera-Masariegos was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing, Carroll said.
