Mormon Apostle Addresses Crowd of Over 1,000

The Morristown Stake of the Church of Latter-Day Saints welcomed D. Todd Christofferson, an apostle of the Mormon church, to its congregation Saturday where he gave a speech to more than 1,00 teenagers.

Christofferson is an elder and a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Latter-Day Saints. He grew up in Somerset and now lives in Salt Lake City. Mormons believe Christofferson to be "a prophet and seer who speaks and acts for God in the same manner as the New Testament apostles Peter, James and John," according to a statement from Marcia Stornetta, a public relations officer for the church.

Those who attended the event said he was an inspirational and engaging speaker who was relevant to the high school students who came to hear him.

Sarah Williams, a sophomore at Madison High School, said, "You could tell that Elder Christofferson really cared about us — he was friendly and open."

Another high school student, Brandon Gurney of Morristown High, said Christofferson's stories about being in high school appealed to him. "I could relate to him because he talked about being the only member of our church in his grade, and I am one of the few members of our church in my school,” Gurney said.

Stornetta said, "Christofferson urged his young audience to pray, to take care of one another and to have faith in God when times are hard."
